Your first Breathwork Session?

Here's A guideline

Consider this guide as a preparation for an upcoming journey. Its purpose is to give you a sense of ease and confidence as you step into your breathwork experience. Especially the first time, a few simple things can help you relax and allow yourself to fully settle into the process.

It is divided into three parts:

  1. Before the session

  2. During the session

  3. After the session.

Before the Session

  1. Wear comfortable clothing: Choose clothes that don’t restrict you. Yoga pants or training pants, a T-shirt or a sweater that allows you to move freely and doesn’t press or tighten anywhere are ideal.

  2. Eating: Try not to eat right before the session, or keep it very light. A full stomach does not enjoy breathing.

  3. Give yourself enough time: It is worth arriving 10–15 minutes before the session begins. This allows you to arrive without rushing, change if needed, and settle in. Your nervous system will thank you.

  4. Expectations: Breathwork is widely talked about at the moment. You may have heard about spectacular experiences or seen impressive videos. It is important to know that every person responds differently to breathwork. What happens for others does not have to be your experience. Allow yourself to discover it in your own way, staying open and curious, without holding on to a particular goal or outcome.

During the Session

  1. In breathwork, it is far less about perfect technique than about bringing your attention to your breath and noticing what unfolds. This sounds simple, but it is often more challenging than it seems. If your mind wanders or you find yourself lost in thought, simply notice it and gently bring your focus back to your breathing. The rest will follow naturally.

  2. Possible effects: The breathing techniques practiced in the Breath Fast Club can (and are intended to) shift your bodily sensations and your state of awareness. This may show up in different ways, for example:

  • Tingling sensations on the skin

  • Mild cramping in the hands, feet, or lips

  • Dizziness or a feeling of drifting

  • Changes in perception, strong emotions, or sensations

  • Shifts in temperature awareness

These reactions are natural and part of the process. Notice them as elements of your experience and trust your body.

After the Session

  1. Landing and settling after a session can take time, and that is perfectly natural. Breathwork can initiate inner processes that need space to unfold. Give yourself that time.

  2. If possible, avoid scheduling commitments immediately afterwards. A quiet evening can help integrate what you experienced.

  3. Drink enough water. Intensive breathing can lead to fluid loss.

  4. Writing down or recording your experience can be very helpful. What stood out? How did you feel? Simply note what is present, without trying to interpret or judge it.
